What are the benefits of being a community member?

Your Nanodegree community is made up of current students and alumni today, but the people you meet now may one day be potential collaborators, co-workers, or employers down the road. Fostering authentic relationships as a student will serve you well, personally and professionally, down the road.

Being an active community member and investing time to get to know the people you are learning with has three major benefits for you in both the short and long-term:

  • Building trust: Put in a little, and you’ll get a lot back. An engaged community is made up of members who trust each other.
  • More learning opportunities: As many students will tell you, just working through the course exercises once won’t truly solidify your knowledge--like any new skill, you’ll have to practice to get good! To get as much out of the Nanodegree program as possible, the opportunities to apply your learning with your classmates will be key. Many members are involved in the dev world already, and will regularly surface upcoming hackathons, events, and resources relevant to their Nanodegree programs.
  • Networking! Lastly, when you are ready to start your job search in earnest, it helps to have a couple thousand potential connections. Building a reputation as an engaged, trustworthy person will help you leverage those connections after graduation.

Countless other benefits exist, but we’ll let you discover them for yourself in time!
