When entering a new community for the first time, it can be tough to figure out exactly where to dip your toes. Here are two things that you can do on Day 1; it should take less than 10 minutes, and you’ll be well on your way to making your mark!
- Identify yourself: We encourage you to personalize your community experience by adding an avatar, changing your username if a default one has been generated for you, and writing something in the bio section of your profile. Not only will it help fellow community members and Udacity staff identify you across different support channels, but you’ll be taking the first step towards establishing your personal brand!
- Say “hello, world!”: As the old adage goes, the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, and sometimes that single step is as simple as putting yourself out there! Here are some places to do so:
- Forums: Each Nanodegree program has its own “Introduce yourself!” Thread, usually located in their Café category. Tell us a little bit about yourself (if you’re not sure what to write about, consider sharing your favorite website or app, or your goals once you finish the program), read the other responses in the thread, and don’t be afraid to reply to let someone know if you’re from the same area or have a similar experience! It could be the start of a Nanodegree-long friendship.
- Slack: If your Nanodegree program has a dedicated Slack channel, introduce yourself in the #general channel.
