What do you do at Udacity?
I'm a Support Community Manager at Udacity, and I help learners from across the globe radically transform their professional lives daily!
How long have you been here?
What are some of your hobbies?
I love upcycling, recycling, and reusing stuff! I am passionate about minimalism and finding more and more sustainable ways of living. The past 3 years have been a personal journey for me, with many hits and misses. I'm still learning, but I read somewhere that we don't need a few people practicing sustainability perfectly; we need many people practicing sustainability imperfectly.
Which Nanodegree Programs have you taken?
I am a Business Analytics Nanodegree graduate. Currently, I'm pursuing Tableau and SQL Nanodegree programs.
Why do you enjoy supporting students?
I believe that every conversation is valuable. If it's feedback from our students, it is an opportunity to improve our products/services. If it is an issue our students are facing, then it is a friction point that we must remove to provide a smooth experience. Anything I do (or don't!) directly impacts our students' goals, and that's a huge responsibility. I enjoy being a part of something meaningful that is actually changing lives.
Tips for Udacity students:
When I was studying for Business Analytics Nanodegree program, even though I felt confident learning the concepts, my 1st project was rejected! The first piece of advice I have for you is that we ALL have been there- don't get discouraged ever.
Here's are my other top ones:
Break tasks into small pieces: I focus on 1 chapter, 1 concept at a time. Don't worry about completing the whole Nanodegree program but just make sure that you have understood everything on the page/video when you click the' Next' button. One step at a time!
Study every day no matter what! Make sure that you set aside time every day to study. For example, I have set alarms and reminders on my phone. I have set up 'Focus time' on my phone and social media apps. I remind myself daily that studying will help me grow in my career rather than spending endless hours on social media or streaming apps. I remind myself of my goals, take a deep breath, and get down to study :)
Ask for help and Google: Whenever I get stuck, I post my question on Knowledge (you may or may not have access to this depending on your enrollment type) or ask my Community Managers. I highly recommend using Support Community to ask questions! We will help you or get someone to help you! I also use Google a lot to find more explanations for concepts I have difficulty understanding.
Make your own notes: I believe taking notes helps you revise and revisit concepts you've learned. They come in handy while working on projects, and since they are written in your own words, it is easier to recall! I like the 'Notion' app to take notes. You should try it :)
Treat yourself: This is my most favorite study ritual! Whenever I finish a chapter, pass a project, or have a successful study session, I treat myself to my favorite food, a movie that I've wanted to watch, or go out with my friends. It is important to take a break and unwind.
Create your own routine! Find a time in your day that works for you and study without distractions. For like a week, I woke up at 5 AM in the morning to study but soon, I realized it was not for me. Now I wake up at 7 or 8 AM, and I have divided my study hours into 2 parts. I study for an hour in the morning and an hour post-dinner/work. On weekends, I go to cafes and study for 4-6 hours and catch up on my missed hours throughout the week. This routine is my own and works for me. You must find your own routine, and it is okay to change it as you go.
